Gags- What They Are And How To Use Them
Gags come in a wide variety of styles and are designed to silence the wearer so that they can’t speak. As an item of bondage gear they’re worn by the submissive during BDSM and intended to give the dominant more control. Gags can be used as a means of making the submissive feel helpless or as a form of punishment or humiliation.
Types of gags
Probably one of the most common types of gag used during BDSM is a ball gag. These consist of a soft but solid rubber ball which is inserted into the mouth and held in place with straps that fasten around the back of the head. The size of the ball varies and if you’re a beginner then we would suggest starting off with the smallest size until you feel confident about moving up to a larger size. Wiffle balls are a similar type of gag but these have holes in them which makes it easier for the wearer to breath. Not all gags are intended to keep the mouth shut either. You can purchase open-mouth gags which are designed to keep the mouth open so that the sub can perform oral sex on her dom. Bit gags have rubber bits which are inserted into the mouth for pony play. Finally other types of gags include penis gags and forniphilic gags.
Safety first
Safety should always be the main concern when introducing a gag into BDSM play since there is a danger of asphyxiation if the wearer’s airways get blocked. Fit is important and the gag shouldn’t be too tight. It’s also advisable never to leave a gagged submissive on their own. In addition take care not to obstruct the wearer’s nose when they’re wearing a gag. Finally, a gag should never be used on a person who is feeling unwell or who suffers from allergies.
Typically during bondage the submissive will have a safe word which they can use if they want the dominant to stop what they’re doing. However, when wearing a gag it’s impossible for a safe word to be spoken so it’s important that an alternative in the form of a signal should be decided upon before play commences. In this case it could be a hand signal or a series of eye blinks. Sometimes BDSM players use a series of three grunts in place of a safe word or other signal.
